All's well in Suffield!  The trustees met on Friday June 22nd before a smaller than usual crowd of six residents.  Trustee chairman Tom Calcei was absent, so vice chairman Jeff Eldreth took over the reins and did an outstanding job of guiding the discussion.  The highlights of the meeting was yet another fairly long discussion on the mowing issue.  No far reaching solution was achieved this morning.  During road superintendent Scott McBroom's presentation, he mentioned receiving a call regarding interring into one of the township's cemeteries the cremated remains of a man.  The discussion on whether or not the township's cemeteries were closed to additional burials has been ongoing since the January 23, 2018 trustee meeting.  More discussion on these important issues will be had in upcoming meetings.  McBroom also reported that the road crew has completed their first mowing along township roadways.  The culvert replacement on Palm Road, just south of Saxe Road, is now on next week's work schedule.  The work is to be done by the Henry Luli Construction Company with the assistance of the Suffield Road Department.  He also said that this year's chip and seal projects will begin the first week of August.  Henry Luli Construction Company was awarded this job earlier this year in the road materials bid process.

Trustee Jared Phillip said that Graphic Details have given him an estimate of $900 to install the new signage around the township campus.  This is in addition to the cost of the materials.  He asked for a purchase order of up to $6500 to cover both materials and installation.  Zoning Inspector Adam Bey said that there is a real possibility that a Dollar General store will be coming to downtown Suffield.  A property at 1169 State Route 43 is rumored to be under consideration.  Bey said that there will be a Board of Zoning Appeals hearing coming up soon.  This concerns the request to build an accessory building on a vacant lot before building a house.

The trustees next regular meeting is Tuesday July 10th at 8:00 PM.  There will be a trustee hearing on the 2019 preliminary budget that same evening at 7:00 PM.  The Zoning Commission meets on Wednesday July 11th at 7:00 PM.  These meetings will be held in the Suffield Community Room at 1256 Waterloo Road.

BZA Grants Variance To Allow Accessory Building

The Suffield Township Board of Zoning Appeals met on July 17th and voted 5-0 to allow Craig & Lisa Dunlap to build an accessory building on their lot at 378 Weakland Road.  They will be required to obtain a building permit for the primary residence before starting construction on the accessory building.  This has been a contentious issue in the township for many years.  Andy Grow made the motion to allow the accessory building, which was then seconded by Leo Weakland.

Wingfoot Lake State Park is Suffield's only park.   It was opened by the Ohio State Parks & Recreation Department in 2009.  Goodyear had operated the park since the 1960's as a private playground for its employees and for corporate retreats.  As the company footprint grew smaller in the Akron area Goodyear decided to close the park in 2006.  To learn more about the park, such as rental of the facilities, visit the park's website:  http://parks.ohiodnr.gov/wingfootlake
