On Tuesday July 24th the Suffield Township Board of Trustees met at 7:00 AM to discuss business and pay the bills.  Discussion was short and sweet and limited to just a couple of topics.  Trustee Jared Phillip said the new signs are still on schedule to be installed in the next week or so.  Zoning inspector Adam Bey said that the Portage County Health Department has suddenly changed directions and wants the township to move forward with tearing down the derelict house at 2412 Sunnybrook Road.  Mostly due to time restrictions, the whole "hearing process" will need to be done again. Best case scenario for completing the removal of the house is ninety days.

The trustees resolved to accept the Tax Incentive Review Council's recommendation that the tax abatement for GP Tree Service and Bednar Enterprises be continued.  There was a glitch in the paperwork last year on the Council's recommendation that the agreement with the Tuscany project be revoked, so the trustees endorsed that recommendation as well.

Trustee Jeff Eldreth said the Road Department has finished with the crack sealing program for this year.  He said he hopes to rent a lift and have the road crew power wash the historic Town Hall and paint the cupola sometime soon.  Trustee Tom Calcei said that the Suffield Elementary School is having a "Welcome Back Celebration" on August 27th from 5:30 to 7:00 PM on the front lawn of the school.  This event is to foster the sense of community among the students, family, faculty and others in Suffield.  (Click here to read the invitation letter from Principal Shawn Bookman)

John Yeargin brought up the Pretty Glen Dam issue, as apparently the county commissioners are poised to move forward with its removal.  The trustees paid the bills and adjourned.  All in all, the six regulars watched a quick meeting and retreated to other more exciting adventures.

The trustees next meet on Tuesday August 14th at 8:00 PM.  The Zoning Commission does not meet in August.  The BZA has two hearings on the horizon, but no dates have been set.  The Suffield Music Festival at Wingfoot Lake State Park is on Friday and Saturday,  August 10th and 11th.  And the Suffield Township Historical Society has a business meeting on Monday August 20th at 6:30 PM.

License Plate Renewals

When buying new license plates, or renewing them, be sure the registrar at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles knows that you live in Suffield Township.  If you simply state your address as Mogadore, the road tax funds, which should go to Suffield Township, will go to Mogadore Village, due to your zip code.  Keep your tax money in the township!

wingfoot lake state park 20150623 1970716186

Wingfoot Lake State Park is Suffield's only park.   It was opened by the Ohio State Parks & Recreation Department in 2009.  Goodyear had operated the park since the 1960's as a private playground for its employees and for corporate retreats.  As the company footprint grew smaller in the Akron area Goodyear decided to close the park in 2006.  To learn more about the park, such as rental of the facilities, visit the park's website:  http://parks.ohiodnr.gov/wingfootlake
